A’r enillydd yw… Theatr na nÓg!

Fis Mai, aeth Theatr na nÓg ar daith i Gaerdydd ar gyfer Gwobrau Arts & Business Cymru yng Nghanolfan Mileniwm Cymru, lle roeddem wedi’n henwebu ar gyfer gwobr gyffrous.

Roedd ein prosiect Would You Jump? wedi’n gosod ni a’n cydweithwyr Awdurdod Harbwr Caerdydd a Phorthladd Aberdaugleddau yn y categori Celfyddydau, Busnes a’r Amgylchedd.

Rydym wrth ein bod i gyhoeddi ein bod wedi ennill y wobr, gyda’r holl feirniaid yn gytûn. Dechrau gwych i adfywio’r prosiect yn 2018 lle byddwn yn gweithio gyda mwy fyth o ysgolion a phobl ifanc ar draws De Cymru yr wythnos nesaf.

Dywedodd Arts & Business Cymru:

‘Gwnaeth y beirniaid ganmol Awdurdod Harbwr Caerdydd a Phorthladd Aberdaugleddau am eu gweledigaeth wrth gomisiynu drama i fynd i’r afael â her gyffredin. Noddodd y busnesau Theatr na nÓg i ddyfeisio a pherfformio drama a oedd yn codi ymwybyddiaeth o beryglon nofio a neidio i’r dŵr mewn ardaloedd morwrol prysur ym Mae Caerdydd ac Aberdaugleddau. Gweithiodd y cwmni theatr gyda disgyblion o flynyddoedd 6-8 yn y ddau leoliad, yn ogystal â rhoi perfformiadau cyhoeddus ar lannau’r dŵr. Gwelwyd Would you Jump? gan dros 1,000 o bobl ac adroddodd y ddau fusnes leihad mewn ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol yn ystod Haf 2017. Roedd y prosiect mor llwyddiannus wrth hyrwyddo neges diogelwch dŵr allweddol mae’r noddwyr wedi cynyddu eu buddsoddiad ar gyfer 2018. Bydd hyn yn galluogi ail gam, yn cynnwys gweithdai ysgrifennu i ddisgyblion yng Nghaerdydd ac Aberdaugleddau, fydd yn datblygu dilyniant i’r ddrama wreiddiol. Cytunodd y beirniaid mai’r cywaith trawiadol hwn oedd yr enillydd amlwg yn y categori hwn.’

And the winner is… Theatr na nÓg!

This May, Theatr na nÓg took a trip to Cardiff for the Arts & Business Cymru Awards in Wales Millennium Centre, where we were up for an exciting nomination.

Our project Would You Jump? had placed us and our collaborators Cardiff Harbour Authority and Port of Milford Haven in the category of Arts, Business and the Environment.

We’re delighted to announce that we scooped the award, with all judges in agreement. A great start to our 2018 reincarnation of the project that sees us working with even more schools and young people across South Wales next week.

Arts & Business Cymru stated:

‘The judges praised Cardiff Harbour Authority and Port of Milford Haven for their vision in commissioning a drama to address a common challenge. The businesses sponsored Theatr na nÓg to devise and perform a play that raised awareness of the dangers of swimming and tombstoning in busy maritime areas in Cardiff Bay and Milford Haven. The theatre company worked with pupils from years 6-8 in both places, as well as giving public performances on the waterfronts. Would you Jump? was seen by over 1,000 people and both businesses reported a decrease in anti-social behaviour during Summer 2017. The project was so successful in promoting a key water safety message that the sponsors have increased their investment in 2018. This will enable a second stage, involving writing workshops for pupils in both Cardiff and Milford Haven, who will develop a sequel to the original play. The judges agreed that this impressive collaboration was the clear winner of this category.’
