Roger worked for 12 years as a freelance theatre designer, director and stage manager with companies including Forest Forge Theatre Company, Bristol Old Vic, York YPT, Northumberland Theatre Company before returning to Higher Education as a lecturer in theatre design at the Welsh College of Music and Drama.
In June 1993 Roger joined Trinity College as a lecturer in the Theatre Studies department, and in 2002, he became Head of School of Theatre and Performance, initiating a fully-practice based curriculum within the new BA Acting programme. In 2007, Roger was seconded to the Senior Management Team, leading on the relationship between research, professional practice and learning and teaching for the , subsequently, successful application for teaching degree awarding powers. In 2009, a second secondment to the Quality Assurance Unit focussed on embedding the new regulatory framework for the new University of Wales Trinity Saint David. In 2010 he became Assistant Dean and in 2011 Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Studies, at various points leading on Learning and Teaching, International Education and Widening Access. Following merger with Swansea Metropolitan University, Roger briefly led a new Faculty of Performance before becoming Dean of Business and Management at the start of this academic year. He is also the operational lead for FE/HE progression.
