The Fight
on February 8th 2024
In the deprived valleys of the 1930s, boxing was more than just a sport; it was a way out of poverty. Merthyr-born Cuthbert Taylor, now seen as one of the best boxers of his generation, should have had the opportunity to fight for a British title, but was denied this chance because of the colour-bar.
The project dates are August 12th - November 22nd 2024
Rehearsals will be in Neath.
Performances at Dylan Thomas Theatre Swansea and Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon.
We are looking to cast the role of Cuthbert Taylor and his father Charlie Taylor.

Playing age: Ranging from 14 to mid thirties
Ethnicity: Black or mixed heritage - of African / Caribbean descent
Ability to box
Welsh Valleys accent
Charlie Taylor
Playing age: 25- 45
Ethnicity: Black or mixed heritage - of African / Caribbean descent

The audition will consist of a quick chat so we can get to know you and for you get to know us, then there are just a few things to prepare:
- Sides of the script provided
- Sparring with Kev. Gloves and pads provided
The panel will consist of Kevin McCurdy, director; Carly Hughes, assistant director; Geinor Styles, Artistic Director of Theatr na nÓg.

How do I apply?

How long is each audition?
We will allocate a 20-minute slot in which to meet the panel read the sides and spar with Kev McCurdy.

When will I hear back from you after the audition?
We will contact you within a week of the audition. After the auditions, we will keep your names on file and if we think you will be suitable for any future roles, we will be in touch to invite you to a specific casting.
