Climate Statement
Theatr na nÓg recognises that we are in a climate emergency and that we have a
responsibility beyond our legal obligations to aim for carbon neutrality as soon as
possible.
We recognise that the work our industry creates is temporary, and that every part of
a theatre production can have an impact, from the raw materials used for set,
costume, lighting and sound, to the audience travelling to a venue.
We believe that the stories we tell can be part of the solution, as theatre can
educate, open people’s minds, deepening their understanding of our natural world.
Although previous stories we have told focused on the environment, we recognise
that this is not enough, and that we must recommit ourselves to focusing on the
environment off the stage too.
We will continue to scrutinise every part of our operation, in order to reduce our
impact and improve our environmental performance. We will incorporate
environmental factors into all business decisions.
We will encourage our staff, volunteers, the creative teams we work with, audience
members and our stakeholders to do the same.
To achieve our ambitious aims we have written a comprehensive action plan which
covers all areas of our operations. This will be a live document which is reviewed and
updated before our bi-monthly Board meetings. We will use it to challenge ourselves
to be better as well as using it as an opportunity to celebrate our achievements.
